Sarah Waara was named the Lena Lions’ Student of the Month for September at the club’s October meeting at McGuire’s Sports Bar and Restaurant. Glenn Magnin, Lena Lions president, presented her with a leatherette clipboard and a certificate.
Waara, a senior at Lena High School, is the daughter of Ken and Gudrun Wondrash. She was honored based on her excellent scholastic record and her extracurricular activities. She participates in golf, National Honor Society, the L-Club and Hi-Q. She has been class secretary for four years, and is a wrestling manager and president of the band.
Her friends describe her as outgoing, positive, helpful and trustworthy. Her hobbies are cooking, baking, writing and playing music on her clarinet and piano.
Waara’s community activities include Lena Red Cross blood drives, the school spaghetti supper, Salvation Army bell ringing, highway cleanup, the Lion’s Club fish fry, National Night Out, gift wrapping for Adopt-a-Family and scanning tickets for the Lena Knights of Columbus at a Green Bay Packers event.
She has worked at The Dairy Barn restaurant for two years.
She plans to attend the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay to earn a degree in music or English education.
