The village of Suring will pin its hopes to a water filter manufactured in Italy as a possible solution to an ongoing problem with a local well.
Dave Welsing and Gayle Lindenberg of Robert E. Lee & Associates engineering told the Village Board on Oct. 13 that Envirogen Technologies Inc., the well’s manufacturer, is investigating whether a new type of filter would be suitable for Suring. The filter is reusable and can be cleaned without contamination, they said.
Lindenberg said the price of the filter was not available.
The village met with representatives of Envirogen Technologies in the spring to find a way to minimize the manual labor required as the well regenerates. Les Steffeck, Suring’s director of public works, said previously he performs regeneration tasks over a period of two to three days. He is required to return to the well to check its progress, which keeps him from other duties, he said. In addition, the well is off-line during regeneration.
The well No. 2 project began in October 2009 when the well was shut down because the arsenic level exceeded Environmental Protection Agency standards.
Well No. 2 is located south of Suring at 8794 State Highway 32.
