Grace A. Hyland

Grace A. Hyland, 89, Oconto Falls, died suddenly Saturday evening, Oct. 24, 2015, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident, while riding with friends and her sister, Leora Schultz-Raisler. Grace was born Feb. 23, 1926, to William and Anna (Fitzgerald) Jones. She graduated from Oconto Falls High School and attended Marinette Teachers Normal, and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. She taught elementary students in Lena and Oconto Falls for over 30 years. Grace loved to play cards and was a longtime member of The River Island Ladies Golf League. Her most enjoyable days were those when she could spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On June 27, 1953, she married Robert “Bob” Hyland at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Oconto Falls. The couple raised their family on the Hyland family farm in Spruce. Grace was a member of St. Anne Catholic Parish in Lena and at one time belonged to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spruce. Survivors are her three children, Kathy (Steve) Krause and Mike Hyland, both of Oconto Falls, and Erin (Dean) Young, Green Bay; six grandchildren, Erika (Paul) Van Roy, Emily (Brad) Robinson, Adam (Amanda) Krause and Alyssa Krause (Jeremy Majors), Chase (Romaine) Hyland and Anna Young; great-grandchildren, Ed, Bob and Josephine Van Roy, and Tristan, Jade, Jager and Rose Hyland; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Jones, Marinette, and La Vonne Jones, Atlanta, Georgia; many nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and sister Leora, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Bob, in 2005; one granddaughter, Angela Young, in 2003; four brothers, William “Jerry”, Patrick, Vernon and Leonard Jones; and one sister, Elizabeth Jones. Visitation will be held after 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 253 N. Franklin St., Oconto Falls, until the time of service. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Joel Sember and Celestine Byekwaso concelebrating. Interment will follow in Kadlec Cemetery. Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls is serving the family.
