Library paraprofessionals Karrie Judd at Oconto Falls Elementary School and Barb Dryja at Abrams Elementary are connecting local students with over 500,000 students and educators for this year’s Global Read Aloud.
The event, started by a teacher in Wisconsin, encourages educators around the world to read the same book aloud to their students and then use technology to share the reading experience with other classrooms.
This year’s chosen author is Amy Krouse Rosenthal, and a number of her books and ones by other authors are being read at OFES, Abrams, Washington Middle School and Oconto Falls High School.
The latest event at OFES involved the book “Duck, Rabbit,” which has readers try to guess if what is seen in the book is either a duck or a rabbit. Students vote and find out what kids across the globe had to say.
In Kids Station at OFES, Constance Mielke is using the book “Fish in a Tree” by Linda Mullay Hunt about a girl with dyslexia. This author is posting YouTube videos with things for students to discuss each week, and other authors are answering questions submitted to them from students. The event runs until November.
