The Machickanee Players, a nonprofit community theater group that has served Oconto for 33 years, will hold a spaghetti dinner fundraiser from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, at Irish Greens Golf Course, 2946 Logtown Road, Oconto.
The troupe operates at the former St. Mark’s Church Hall, 408 Park Ave., Oconto, which was donated to the group in the 1980s by a local patron. The building was the first church built in the county and is over 150 years old.
The church hall is on the state register for historic buildings and is beginning to show its age. There are several much-needed renovations to the building, including a new roof, windows, siding, updated plumbing and electrical, a weatherized crawlspace, air conditioning and additional furnaces, renovation of the bathrooms, a paved parking lot, lot drainage via landscaping, updated exit doors, a refinished hall floor, and making the building handicap accessible.
To begin work on this extensive list, the group will launch a fundraising campaign, with the spaghetti dinner as the first event. Advance tickets are on sale at Bay Impressions, BayShore Books, Irish Greens Golf Course and Wagner Shell.
Tickets are $10 for general admission and $7 for veterans and active duty military personnel. Tickets for children 12 and under are 50 cents per year of age. Attendees also can purchase raffle tickets or bid on silent auction items for dozens of prizes donated by local businesses. Prizes include a family golf package worth over $500.
