The five high schools in Oconto County are vying to win one of two cash prizes totaling $30,000 to be used for classroom technology.
Schools in Gillett, Lena, Oconto, Oconto Falls and Suring are participating in Cellcom’s Project Innovate, in partnership with Nsight Telservices . The community voting challenge began Oct. 19 and ends at midnight Nov. 20. The school with the most votes at the end of the voting period will be awarded a $25,000 grand prize exclusively for the purchase of technology. The first-prize winner will receive $5,000.
“We work hard to find ways to give back to education locally,” said Brighid Riordan, director of public affairs for Cellcom and Nsight Telservices. “Equipping a school with the latest technology is high on the wish list of many educators and students, but budget concerns can make these items less attainable. Project Innovate aims to bridge the gap and give schools the opportunity to meet their technological needs and enhance education overall.”
Schools can use their winnings to equip classrooms with interactive white boards, laptops or tablets, software and apps, Wi-Fi network equipment, connected science lab instruments or digital media tools.
“This is the sixth year we’ve held Project Innovate, and we are excited to bring it to this area. The students and teachers are always creative and put a lot in to the challenge,” Riordan said. “The key to success in Project Innovate is to tell as many people as can to vote for your school. The schools that mobilize early and think outside the box have had the most success.”
Anyone age 13 and up is eligible to vote, regardless of location. Each individual can vote one time, and an email address is required to vote. To vote, visit www.cellcom.com/projectinnovate.
