To the editor:
In a recent article, it appears a decision has been made to charge the two teenagers with a felony when they made a typical youth decision to play a prank on their teacher.
Unfortunately, the foul tasting item at hand was a caustic substance.
This unpremeditated action had consequence that required medical treatment, but the intention was not to injure but as a joke.
If they’re convicted, the lives of these two teens will be forever ruined. Their bright future will always be tainted by a felony record.
This letter is not to lessen the seriousness of the act nor that there should be no consequences. I would love to see 1,000 hours of community service. A lot of good can come out of this mindless act, but having them in prison is not the human (or humane) way to treat this.
I am sure the authorities have all the facts to base the charges on, and the case will be decided with compassion and fairly by their peers.
