Marvin M. Schlorf, 92, Oconto Falls, died Monday evening, Dec. 28, 2015, at Sharpe Care. He was born July 10, 1923, in the town of Morgan to Herman and Elizabeth (Birr) Schlorf.
Marvin grew up in Morgan, where he attended North Morgan School and started working on the family farm as a young boy. It was also during this period of his life where he became interested in music.
On Dec. 14, 1946, he married Beatrice Gaertig in Oconto Falls. The couple lived in Morgan for most of their married lives. They owned and operated Evergreen Dairy Farm until selling it in 1985.
Marvin was also a well-known drummer in area polka bands, even having his own Polka Tyme Band for many years. As a longtime member of the Musicians Union Local 648, A.M.F. and the Shawano Federation, he held a gold card for over 50 years of continuous membership and once served as trustee.
Even though Marvin moved to Oconto Falls in 2002, he continued his longtime membership of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Morgan, where once served as secretary.
Survivors are his four sons, Ervin Schlorf, Cottage Grove, Minnesota; Leroy (Pattie Lovelace) Schlorf Sr., Green Bay; Randy (Debbie) Schlorf, Oconto Falls; Allen (Mary) Schlorf, West De Pere; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Betty Schlorf and Beverly Gaertig, both of Oconto Falls, Ruth Nass, Green Bay, and Marie Gaertig, Menomonee Falls; one brother-in-law, Otto Delzer, Lena; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Beatrice, in 1989; three brothers, Freeman, Lorenz and Bernard; one daughter-in-law, Patricia Schlorf; and good friend, Donald Teschke.
Visitation was held after 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 4, 2016, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in the town of Morgan until the time of service. Funeral services were held at 6 p.m. Monday at the church with Pastor Paul Heykes officiating. Burial will take place in the Town of Morgan Cemetery.
The Schlorf family would like to thank Dr. Genadi Maltinski, the nurses and staff of Sharpe Care and Unity Hospice for the care and concern shown Marvin during their time together.
