Three Shawano singles players and a doubles team made it to the Division 2 sectional round, and of those players advanced to the state tournament.
Number 1 singles player Enrique Omella Valls beat Chase Almlie of Osceola 6-1, 6-1, but then lost 6-3, 6-4 to Tegan Schott of Aquinas. However, the first round win qualified him for state, the third Shawano state qualifier in four years. He also beat an Ashland player to finish third.
Tanner Thiel, at No. 3, lost 6-4, 6-3 to Carter Sisko of Regis, and No. 4 Everett Grover lost 6-0, 6-2 to Henry McGovern of Aquinas.
At No. 1 doubles, Evan Anderson and Charlie Grieves lost 6-4, 7-6 (1) to Carter Marincel and Owen Henningsgard of Osceola.
One Pulaski singles player and two doubles teams advanced to Division 1 tennis sectionals before bowing out of the playoff hunt last weekend.
In sectional play, Pulaski’s No. 2 Thoma Pannatier lost 6-0, 6-0 to Cale Vogel of Appleton West.
At No. 1 doubles, Oscar Delmarcelle and Lucas Ford lost 6-0, 6-0 to Sam Hahnke and Spencer Munson of Appleton North.
And at No. 3 doubles, Simon Banaszynski and Liam Ford lost 6-0, 6-0 to Landen Madison and Yash Yeturu of Notre Dame.
Subsectionals, Division 1
In the subsectional round, Landon Gottfedson of Ashwaubenon defeated Oriol Capella Rodon of Pulaski 2-6, 6-0, 10-4.
Pannatier defeated Ardie Ivasaronga of Green Bay Southwest 6-0, 6-0 and then defeated Andre Ramirez Rodriguez of Bay Port 7-5, 6-3. In the championship, he lost to Augustine Luy of Notre Dame Academy.
Jonah Drevs beat Bedri Jama of Green Bay East 6-0, 6-1 but was then defeated by Bay Port’s Paul Scherer 7-5, 6-1.
Aaron Trijueque Ruiz had a first-round bye. Trevor Kuklinski of Notre Dame Academy then defeated him 6-2, 3-6, 10-5.
In doubles play, Delmarcelle and Lucas Ford defeated Juan Miguel Gillego and Corian Longley of Green Bay East 6-2, 6-2. They lost to Ciaran Ryan and Andreas Schweiner of Notre Dame Academy in the semifinals.
William Gosse and Conrad Kreutzberg lost their opening round match. They were defeated 6-3, 7-5 by Owen Herald and Connor Beaudo of Ashwaubenon.
Banaszynski and Liam Ford had a bye in the first round. Then, they defeated Carson Kline and Ethan Fredricks of Green Bay Preble 6-3, 5-7, 10-6. In the championship match, they beat Emanuel Poehlmann and Aaron Miller of Notre Dame Academy to earn the subsectional title.
As a team, Pulaski placed third with 14 points.
Subsectionals, Division 2
Enrique Omella Valls had a bye in the first round and beat Adrian Erickson of Ashland in the semifinals.
Kiernan Sheldon had a first round bye and lost to Blaine Searles of Medford 7-6 (3), 2-6, 10-8.
Thiel had a first round bye, beat Ethan Kollmansberger of Medford 7-6 (5), 6-1 and lost to Jonah Oldenkamp of Altoona for the championship.
Everett Grover also had a first round bye, beat Ethan Jones of Medford 6-0, 6-4 and lost to Connor Gower of Altoona for the title.
Anderson and Grieves beat Colton Pupp and Wyatt Granados of Ashland by default 2-0, 2-0, then lost to Andrew Colianni and Main Byram of Lakeland Union.
John Kim and Samuel Green had a first round bye, then lost to Marshall Czlapinski and Jayden Shepski of Lakeland Union 6-4, 4-6, 10-4.
Seth Pyatskowit and Francesco La Notte lost 7-5, 4-6, 10-6 to Nate Kostac and Talon Redhouse of Ashland.
The Shawano team placed third with 14 points.
