The Schairer farm shop in Birnamwood was built for equipment but became a place of worship May 11.
St. John’s Lutheran Church held its second annual Church on the Farm service on Mother’s Day. The Rick Lettau Family Band came out of retirement to provide the polka music. It had everyone tapping their feet and singing along. The altar area, handcrafted by Jim Schairer, farmer and craftsman, included a cross fashioned from 130-year-old driftwood taken from Norrie Lake. Over 375 people were in attendance.
“This service was well-received again this year; attendance increased by 50 people from last year,” Pastor Jennifer Sosinski said. “Many people commented how encouraged and uplifted they felt by attending the service. That’s one of my favorite things about being a pastor, seeing people filled with hope at the end of the service. Life can be challenging; you should feel better after coming to church.”
Donations were received from Ron and Sharon Bauch, Bank First, Mullins Cheese, Matsche Farms, Lund Transport and Kautza Septic, covering everything from the chairs to cheese curds.
