Twig’s Beverage, the local bottler of Sun Drop, is seeking a Golden Boy and Golden Girl to represent the soda company during the next year.
Applicants must be current fourth grade students living in the Shawano School District. This includes students in the public schools, St. James Lutheran School, Sacred Heart Catholic School and homeschooled students.
Jaime Lee, the Sun Drop Girl, spoke to fourth grade classes at local schools last week.
“This is what we’re looking for – old-fashioned hometown values, that you are respectful of adults, of teachers, of your peers,” she told students at Olga Brener Intermediate School. “Live by the golden rule. We’re looking for somebody who’s really positive or energetic. Someone who wants to serve.”
Last year’s winners were Ramona Mediam and Casey Johnson. There were chosen from among nearly three dozen applicants.
“We’re looking for someone who has a lot of dreams, who has big dreams,” she said. “And also something that’s very important to Twig’s Beverage is: ‘Do not bottle up your feelings.’ It’s very important to talk about mental health, regardless of if you’re happy or sad. Let your feelings flow, and trust them.”
The application includes an essay from the student of why he or she would be a good role model and help spread positivity in the community.
It also requires two letters of recommendation from adults detailing how the student serves as a role model at school, at home and in the community. It also asks about the student’s unique gifts and why he or she would make a positive representative of the company.
Prizes include a one-year supply of Sun Drop, Golden Boy or Girl T-shirt and hat, a ride in the Sun Drop limousine, a VIP tour of Twig’s Museum and featured articles in local news outlets.
Applications are due to the student’s teacher by May 15. Homeschooled students can pick up and drop off applications at Twig’s, 920 S. Franklin St., Shawano.
Winners will be announced during Sun Drop Dayz on June 6-7.
