The Shawano County Sheriff’s Department arrested a man over the weekend who entered a home in Wittenberg with guns and caused a disturbance.
On Jan. 11 at about 9:51 p.m., dispatchers received a 911 call reporting a man had entered a residence with two guns and caused a disturbance on Front Street. The man was believed to be intoxicated and after a brief struggle, fled into a nearby residence leaving one of the guns on scene. Within one minute, a deputy arrived on scene and secured the discarded weapon.
The Shawano County Special Response Team was paged as well as an armored personnel vehicle from the Marathon County Multi-Agency SWAT Team. Several nearby homes were ordered to evacuate, and a shelter was provided at Wittenberg Village Hall. The suspect home was surrounded and contact was attempted with the suspect. At 1:17 a.m. on Jan. 12, a 36-year-old man was taken into custody.
The man is currently being held at the Shawano County Jail, and several felony charges were referred to the Shawano-Menominee County District Attorney’s Office for review. Based on the investigation, no rounds were fired from the arrested party. No further details are being released, according to Detective Craig Rekoske.
The sheriff’s department was also helped by Tigerton and Shawano police departments, the village of Wittenberg and Wittenberg Ambulance Service.
