Richard “Dick” Lawrence Smith, 76, of Shawano, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Nov. 8, 2024.
Born in Mankato, Minnesota, on Nov. 5, 1948, to the late Richard and Mildred (Enter) Smith, he is survived by daughter, Shaine (Stu) Schnurman; son, Adam Smith; brother, Jerry Smith; sister, LuAnn Barrows; and grandchildren, Anna and Spencer Schnurman.
He is preceded in death by son, Chad Smith; parents, Richard and Mildred Smith; sister, BettyJane (Gil) Negen; and brother-in-law, Randy Barrows.
Richard is further survived by friends such as Perry Prey, Erin Christianson, Tom Bagshaw, Dave Adler and Cindy Katz. He will be missed by many, including his pals at Popp’s Ballpark Diner.
Richard graduated from Long Beach Wilson High School in California and attended Long Beach City College before joining the United States Marines, being discharged as a sergeant. He went on to work in the pulp and paper industry in California, Texas, Arizona and Wisconsin as a lab technician and chemical salesman.
Always the life of the party, Richard was a man with a love for fast boats, classic cars, hunting and playing pool. He enjoyed many years on Shawano Lake with his family, spending his later years in the comfort of his home on the Wolf River.
