Donald Robert Birr, 94, Oconto Falls, passed away at home on Friday, Oct. 4, 2024.
He was born on Feb. 27, 1930, in Green Bay. On Aug. 31, 1957, Donald married Helen Tajak at St. John Cantius Catholic Church in Sobieski. He served his country in the Army during the Korean War. Donald worked at the Post Office in Oconto Falls for 30 years, from 1960-90.
Donald and Helen also operated a farm in the Town of Morgan. He was a member of American Legion Post 337, AMVETS Post 160 and the PLAV, all in Pulaski. Donald enjoyed trips to casinos, playing cards and shaking dice.
Survivors include six children, Gary (Julie) Birr, Marsha (Steve) Laurent, Donna (Bill) Gerndt, Ruth Longsine, Norman Birr and Tim (Tammy) Birr; seven grandchildren, Alyssa, Kaitlyn (fiancé Bennett), Aaron (Alicia), Travis, Zachary, Emily (Bryan) and John; three sisters, Gloria Monigal, Carol Bundy and Rita (John) Dalton. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and other friends and relatives.
Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; parents, Norman and Lucy (Konitzer) Birr; in-laws, John and Helen Tajak; infant twins, Pamela and Duane; granddaughter, Sarah (Birr) Rust; sisters, Joan (Dick) Rodgers and infant, Elizabeth; brothers-in-law, Bill Monigal and Dale Bundy.
Friends are invited to gather with the family at Assumption B.V.M. Church, 119 E. Pulaski St., Pulaski, on Friday, Oct. 11, from 9-11 a.m. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with the Rev. James Esser, O.F.M. presiding. Military honors rendered by the Pulaski Area Veterans will follow at the church. Entombment will take place in the Allouez Catholic Mausoleum.
