The Machickanee Players has scheduled their 41st season, and it includes two comedies and one drama to be presented at the Park Avenue Theatre, 408 Park Ave., Oconto.
The first, to be presented in October, is the comedy “Escanaba in da Moonlight.” Written by Jeff Daniels, it is about hunting and its traditions in Upper Michigan. The Soady family, consisting of father Albert, sons Reuben and Remnar, and friend Jimmy Negamanee, go to their hunting camp, hoping that this is the year that Reuben, now 43, will finally get his first buck. The show will be directed by Jackie Kapla. Auditions will be held in June or July.
February will see the drama/romance “84 Charing Cross Road.” New York City bibliophile Helene Hanff writes to the London Bookshop Marks and Co. in search of some titles she has not been able to turn up locally. Store manager Frank Doel responds politely to her chatty letter, and over the course of two decades, a deep, long-distance friendship evolves. “84 Charing Cross” is based on a true story and will be directed by Cathey Nelson.
The final show of the season will be the comedy “Keep On Laughing.” The sequel to the well-received “Exit Laughing,” it picks up the story of the original characters, but now Connie’s daughter is married to her stripper boyfriend, and they’re expecting twins. Connie, Leona and Millie have been touring the world and having the time of their lives, returning to tell hysterical stories of their adventures.
This time, one of those adventures has gotten out of hand. Level-headed Connie has met a man in Paris, and he’s proposed to her. Everyone should be happy, but Rachel and Bobby are not, as Connie’s new boyfriend is the same age as Bobby. The original cast and director will return.
Performances are held at 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, with the Sunday matinee starting at 2 p.m. Dates will be announced.
