Birnamwood freshman Holly Orgeman, a bowler with the D.C. Everest/Wittenberg varsity girls bowling team, grabbed second place in the Wisconsin High School Bowling Club (WIHSBC) state meet at the Ashwaubenon Bowling Alley this past weekend.
Orgeman bowls in District 9 (Wausau area). The freshman earned the first seed after semifinal rounds and automatically advanced to the championship ground during match play.
In the championship match, Orgeman fell to Maggie Porter from Cambridge 246-191 to take second. Hartford Union’s Natalie Hirsch took third, while Oostburg’s Addison Kohl was fourth and Merrill’s Marley Krueger was fifth.
In the qualifying round March 1, Orgeman rolled games of 216, 206 and 158 for a 580 series to finish fifth and earn a spot in the semifinals. Oconto Falls’ Marissa Miller was 33rd out of 57 with games of 168, 176 and 165 for a 509. The top 14 girls moved onto semifinals.
In semifinals, Orgeman took first by bowling games of 216, 206, 158, 201, 193 and 231 for 1,205 pins.
On the boys’ side, Stevens Point Area Senior High’s Dayden Koback took first, while Neenah’s Zachary Olson was second, Sheboygan Lutheran’s Dalton Zeman was third, Antigo’s Grant Praslowicz was fourth and Portage’s Aiden Scoot took fifth.
For teams, Sheboygan Area Co-Op won the Division 1 girls state title, while Merrill/Tomahawk took first in Division 2 girls. Sheboygan South won the Division 1 boys state title and Baraboo took the title in Division 2.
Orgeman will now complete March 9 in the WiHSBC All-Star Challenge at Riviera Lanes in Green Bay with four other bowlers from D9.
