Candice Marie Daniels, “Mno Gizhgok,” “Good day woman,” 46, of Crandon, passed away Saturday, Jan. 21, 2023, at the Aspirus Langlade Hospital in Antigo. Candice was born June 27, 1976, in Rhinelander, the daughter of Robert and Rogerine (Tourtillott) Daniels Sr.
Candice went to the University of Minnesota for 2½ years studying Native American, then came back to Crandon and studied as an language apprentice under Jim Thunder and Billy Daniels Jr. She also worked in the enrollment department. She liked camping, planting, sewing and beading, picking berries, baking and gambling. She loved spending a lot of time with her granddaughter, nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her mother, Rogerine Wychesit; father of her children, Thomas Mayotte; daughters, Illianna Daniels, Keeyana Daniels and Arianna Daniels, all of Minnesota; son, Ksinya Daniels, of Minnesota; grandchild, Gianna Daniels; brothers, Christian (Floreze) Daniels, of Rhinelander, and Patrick Daniels, of Stonelake.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Daniels Sr.; and brothers, George Daniels and Robert Daniels Jr.
Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2023, at the Potawatomi Cultural Center in Crandon. Services to begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2023, at the Potawatomi Cultural Center with Lance Long officiating. Burial to follow at the Potawatomi Tribal Cemetery in Crandon.
