Verlyn A. Spreeman Sr.

Verlyn A. Spreeman Sr., 94, of Oconto Falls, passed away on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2022, at The Cottages at Meadowlands Memory Care Unit. Verlyn was born on Jan. 28, 1928 to the late William Sr. and Mildred (Lempke) Spreeman. He graduated from Mountain High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in Korea. After returning from service, Verlyn began work at the Suring Midland Co-Op as a butcher. He became known as the “Suring Butcher and Ice Cream Man” and worked there until his retirement in 1990. On April 7, 1951, Verlyn married the love of his life, Beulah Wilber, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Keshena. Verlyn enjoyed puzzles and was a good mechanic. He loved his grandchildren and his favorite thing was to take them for tractor and trailer rides. His favorite sayings were, “That’s good enough” and “See you in church after they pass the collection plate.” Verlyn is survived by his six children, Kathleen (Dave) Selig, Verlyn “Buzz” Spreeman Jr., James (Brenda) Spreeman, Richard Spreeman, Robert (Kathleen) Spreeman, and Susan Maloney; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, William Spreeman Jr.; and sister-in-law, Della Spreeman. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah; siblings, Carlyle (Marie) Spreeman, Althea (Floyd) Peters, Margaret (Levi) Meyer, Marcella Spreeman, Earl (Sally) Spreeman, Elaine (Jack) Schmidt, Eugene Spreeman, and Shirley (Eugene) Baeten; sisters-in-law, Elaine Spreeman and Jean Spreeman; and son-in-law, Steve Maloney Visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 18, 2022, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Breed from 9 a.m. until the funeral service at 11 a.m. with Pastor Steven Stoll officiating. Military honors will follow the service. Verlyn will be interred at Breed Union Cemetery beside Beulah. Gruetzmacher Funeral Home in Suring is assisting the family with arrangements.
