Linda J. Young

Linda J. Young, 80, of Shawano, passed away peacefully on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 19, 2022, at her home. Linda was born Sept. 29, 1941, in New London, a daughter of the late Fred and Marcella (Helms) Kamke. She attended school in Hortonville, graduating from Hortonville High School with the Class of 1959. Following high school, Linda went to work as a secretary at an insurance company in Appleton. On Sept. 9, 1961, she was united in marriage to Jerry Young at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Stevensville. Shortly after their marriage, the couple opened Young’s Tap in Hortonville, which they owned for five years. Linda and Jerry then moved to Shawano where they owned and operated Jerry’s Country Sound for 25 years. In 1995, they sold the building to Luigi’s and began bar tending at the Menominee Casino. Linda tended bar for 13 years before retiring. Linda loved her customers and the friends she made while working behind the bar. She is a former member and past secretary of the Shawano County Tavern League. Linda was truly a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Jerry Young, of Shawano; two sons, Jack (Jessica) Young and Joel (Joan) Young, both of Shawano; eight grandchildren, Alex (Amanda) Young, Emily (Marco) Castro, Kate Young, Dominic Young, Skyler Young, Leonardo Young, Wyatt Young and Scarlett Young; five sisters, Lorraine (Eugene) Young, of Shawano, JoAnn Taylor, of New London, Hope Prahl, of New London, Jane Pomerenke, of Waupaca, and Della (Bruce Jacobs) Prahl, of Freedom; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Fritz (Evelyn) Kamke and Kenny (Loretta) Kamke, and three sisters, Fern Taylor, LaVern Rice and Jean Kamke. A time to remember and celebrate the life of Linda Young will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at noon at the Shawano American Legion Post 117. In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials in Linda’s name are preferred. Mickelson Funeral and Cremation Service, Inc. is assisting the family with arrangements.
