Norman James Saffran passed away peacefully at home on Feb. 8, 2021, at the age of 92. Norman was born on June 27, 1928, in Mountain. He was the son of the late Herman and Margaret Saffran. He served in the Army during the Korean War. On March 31, 1951, he married Betty Jane Strehlow.
He is survived by four children, Kenneth, Dawn (Richard) Zur, Terry (Tom Barham), and Sandra Hansen. He loved his grandchildren, Angela (Joey) Keeran, Richard (Amanda) Zur, Kenneth Hansen, Aaron Hansen, Kristie Hansen, and Sara (Steve) Shearier; and three great-grandsons, Richard (Zac) Zur, Mason Zur, and Isaak Hansen.
He is further survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Richard and JoAnn Saffran; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Fern Cramer, Pete Strehlow, Audrey Strehlow, Doris Saffran, and Fay and Tom Stache. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers, Robert and Lloyd; and son-in-law Bruce Hansen.
Norman worked at Trent Tube for 44 years, retiring in 1991. He was a long-time member of St. James United Methodist Church. Norman loved hunting, fishing, traveling, and spending time at his place up north with his wife, children, grandchildren, and extended family and friends.
The family would like to express its deepest gratitude to Terry, who was Dad’s constant care giver and companion for many years – especially after Mom passed away, and to Ken Hansen who was always there to help him and spend time with him. The family would like to thank Dr. Gary Shepherdson and Lonnie for the wonderful care and comfort shown to Norman for many years, and to Grace Hospice, especially Jamie. Her care and compassion for Dad and the family were like an angel leading us through a difficult time.
