Nelda Pauline Agnes Habeck, 95, of Clintonville, was granted her wish of enjoying Christmas dinner with Jesus as she passed away peacefully Thursday morning, Dec. 24, 2015, at the Aster Retirement Community in Clintonville.
Nelda was born on May 5, 1920, in the town of Pella, Shawano County, as the daughter of the late John and Alma (Neumann) Kuhn. Nelda attended school in Pella and as a young woman moved to Milwaukee where she worked in childcare. She met Herbert Habeck and the couple were united in marriage on Oct. 5, 1946, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Pella Opening. The couple farmed in Pella until 1980 when they retired from farming and moved into Clintonville. Herbert preceded his wife in death on December 23, 2006. Nelda was a proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother as well as a wonderful homemaker. She also spent time as the first activity director at Pine Manor Health Care Center in Embarrass. Nelda was a life-long member of St. Peter’s where she was a charter member of the ladies aid, taught Sunday School, and was a member of the LWML. She was also active in the community with Friends of Concordia, AAL, Golden Agers, Jolly Mixers, and the Garden Club. Nelda loved to decorate cakes, bake, play cards, crochet, and tend to her flowers. Her faith and love for her Lord remained a strength for her and her family her entire life.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary (Fiance: Craig Wians) Jung, Shawano; her son, Jim (Karen) Habeck, Clintonville; five grandchildren, Tracy (Dohn) Laude, Embarrass, Lisa (Tom) Papendorf, Clintonville, Jessica (Aaron) Heckel, Stevens Point, Peter (Kelly) Jung, Middleton, Wendy (Jon) Gueths, Shawano; eight great-grandchildren, Nathaniel, Jonathan, Matthew, Benjamin, Ezekiel, Brandi, Addison and Aiden; two step-great-grandchildren, Linsey and Jessica; sister, Leona Zahn, Shawano; sister-in-law, Doris Hoffman, Shawano; niece, Diane (Tom) Eggert, Shawano; and numerous cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herb; and her nephew, Wayne Hoffman.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 26, 2015, at noon at the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in the town of Pella, with the Rev. Todd Jerabek officiating, and interment will follow at the St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the services.
