Musical melodrama ‘Drunkard’ opens in Oconto

The Machickanee Players will top off their 30th anniversary season with a musical melodrama, “The Drunkard or Down with Demon Drink,” by Brian J. Burton. The show features the talent of Derek Beaumia as the young hero, Jen Longsine as the innocent heroine, and Lyle Nichols as the villain. The action on stage is supplemented by “olio” acts between the scenes, which are representative of a vaudeville-style show. Audience participation is encouraged by cheering the hero and heroine and booing the villain, which helps complete the melodrama experience. The main characters are joined by newcomers Patricia Lindsten, Marly Thomson, Alberta Beaumia, Hannah Wusterbarth as Julia Middleton, and veteran actors Jeff Wold, Sara Croney, Pam Loberger, Wendy Schark, Doug Croney, Mike Allard, Liz Zitny and Chris Weis. The play is directed by Chris LaChance, assisted by Chris Weis. Diane Nichols is the musical director. Dinner shows are at 7 p.m. Oct. 11, 12 and 19. Stand-alone shows are at 7 p.m. Oct. 18 and 2 p.m. Oct. 13 and Oct. 20. The show is presented at The Park Avenue Playhouse, 408 Park Ave., Oconto.
