Menominee Tribal Enterprises took home top honors Oct. 21 at the Marketplace 2013 Governor’s Conference on Minority Business Development in Milwaukee.
MTE received the Outstanding Large Business award in the minority-owned business category for achieving success through innovation, sales, products, customer relations, employment and management dimensions.
The company, owned and operated by the Menominee Tribe of Wisconsin, manufactures cabinets, furniture and millwork, and employs 150 people from local communities.
“It is truly an honor to accept such a prestigious award on behalf of MTE,” said Norman Shawanokasic, MTE president. “A huge thank you goes out to the employees, it is their dedication and commitment to MTE that has made this award possible.”
MTE products are manufactured on the Menominee Indian Reservation in Neopit. All wood products are made from a selection of native northern hardwood, grown among 30 species of timber that have been carefully managed for over 150 years in the Menominee Forest.
Marketplace is a statewide conference held annually to provide businesses owned by minorities, women and disabled veterans the opportunity to meet government and corporate buyers, network with potential teaming partners, attend business seminars and find valuable business resources to help grow their businesses. The conference also recognizes the state’s top minority-owned businesses.
