Matty Mathison, center, of Shawano, was presented with AARP Wisconsin’s top statewide volunteer award for 2025 in a ceremony March 31 at the Shawano Lake County Park pavilion. Mathison is a dedicated advocate for the creation, preservation and expansion of trail systems throughout Shawano County. She received the award from AARP Wisconsin state director Raj Shukla, left, and trail volunteer Nancy Brown-Koeller, who nominated Mathison for the award. As part of the honor, Mathison was given the opportunity to select a nonprofit organization to receive a $1,000 donation from AARP. She will donate the entire amount to Shawano Pathways.
