Marlene J. Nybo, 82, of Erlanger, Kentucky, formerly of Shawano, passed away Sunday, Nov. 15, 2020, at the Village Care Center in Erlanger. Born Oct. 3, 1938, in Fargo, North Dakota, she was a daughter of the late Harold and Blanche (Kopperud) Northup. After graduating from high school, she earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and a master’s degree at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
On Aug. 4, 1961, Marlene married Charles R. Nybo in St. Paul, Minnesota, and her dear husband of 52 years preceded her in death on Feb. 4, 2014. In 1966, she and her husband moved to the Shawano area, where Marlene became the librarian at Olga Brener Elementary School in Shawano, until her retirement in 1998. Upon retirement, she became a member of the Shawano County Area Retired Teachers’ Association.
Marlene was also a member of the Gideon Auxiliary and an active member of the Shawano Assembly of God Church, where she taught Sunday School. She enjoyed reading and volunteering at Olga Brener and at the Maple Lane Health Care Center.
Marlene was survived by her son, Mark (Kathryn) Nybo, of Crescent Springs, Kentucky; her daughter, Kari (John) DeClark of Niagara; four grandchildren, Luke Nybo, John Nybo, Danielle Wagner and Brad (Brenda) DeClark; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Lou (Curt) Petersen of Alden, Minnesota; and one brother, Ricky Renstrom of St. Paul, Minnesota.
Graveside services were held Saturday at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano, conducted by Ron Timm. Memorials are suggested to The Gideons International.
