Marilyn A. Damrau

Marilyn A. Damrau, 83, of Tigerton passed away Monday, Sept. 13, 2021, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. Marilyn Ann Rowe was born Nov. 2, 1937, in rural Montfort, Wisconsin, to Charles and Olivia (Steil) Rowe. She graduated from Montfort High School in 1955 and went on to Wisconsin State College at Platteville, earning her degree in elementary education in 1959. On Aug. 20, 1960, she was united in marriage to Gerald (Jerry) Damrau in Dubuque, Iowa. The couple settled in the Town of Germania, Shawano County, where they dairy farmed until Jerry’s death on Aug. 24, 1994. Marilyn taught fourth grade for 31 years in Eland and Wittenberg, retiring in 1995. Marilyn loved nature and spending time outside. She spent many hours walking the trails around the woods on the farm, enjoying the serenity and beauty of her home. She knew the native plants and flowers and loved helping neighbors and friends identify plants, flowers and birds. For many years, Marilyn grew a large garden and cooked hearty meals from the garden for her family and the men working on the farm. Marilyn was an excellent cook. After retirement, Marilyn traveled the world, read many books and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Most of all, she treasured the time she spent with her grandkids of whom she was very proud. Survivors include two sons, Mike (Lori) Damrau and Brian Damrau; two grandchildren, Amber Damrau and Aaron Damrau; and one great-granddaughter, Olivia, all of Tigerton. There are five siblings: Barb Zenz of Portage, Carol Bakken of Middleton, Roger (Virginia) Rowe of Middleton, Tari Moon of McFarland, and Jane (Ray) Schlamp of Mazomanie. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Jerry. Memorial services will be held Saturday, Sept. 25, at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, Tigerton. Rev. Dean Suehring will officiate and inurnment will follow at Union Cemetery, Tigerton. Visitation will be on Saturday from 9 a.m. until time of service at the church. Memorials are preferred to St. John Lutheran Church, Tigerton.
