Margaret P. Escalante

Margaret P. “Marge” Escalante, 65, of Shawano, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. Marge was born Jan. 27, 1956, in Ironwood, Michigan, a daughter of the late Edward G. and Patricia M. (Cox) Matusewic. She moved to South Branch when she was 16 years old. Marge worked for the Menominee Indian School District as a custodian for several years. On July 4, 2009, Marge was united in marriage to Robert Escalante in Shawano. She is a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Keshena. Marge enjoyed playing bingo, visiting the casino, and cheering for the Minnesota Vikings. Survivors include her husband, Robert, of Shawano; three children, James Waupoose, of Shawano, Amy (David) Hernandez, of Shawano, and Kristy Wilber Waupoose, of Green Bay; 14 grandchildren; her special granddaughter, Tasheena; 10 great-grandchildren; her brother, Joe Matusewic of Ironwood, Michigan; her sister, Mary (Jerry) Matson of Iron Belt; her best friend, Tory Gladue; her fur babies, Puddles, Bubbles, Emily, and Awaehsaeh; and several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Angie Waupoose Merino; three sisters; two brothers; and her special fur baby, Poopers the dog. A funeral Mass for Margaret will be celebrated on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2021, at 11 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Keshena. The Rev. Nonito Barra will be the celebrant. Visitation will begin on Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2021, from 1-4 p.m. at Mickelson Funeral Service. Visitation will resume at the church on Wednesday at 9 a.m. and continue until the time of Mass.
