The Machickanee Players will present comedy, drama and suspense in their 31st season of community theater.
The season opens with Charlotte Hastings’ “High Ground.” This drama, a thrilling tale of coincidence, will be presented Feb. 7, 8, 9, 14, 15 and 16. On a stormy night, the waters are high and the fear of the dam breaking brings the town together at the chapel on the highest hill. Little do they know a killer is among them. Sarat Carn has been convicted of murdering her brother and is sentenced to death, but one of the nuns believes she is innocent. The show’s twists and turns will leave the audience guessing what’s next.
The second show will be B. Gilford’s comedy, “Bull in a China Shop,” performed April 25, 26 and 27, and May 2, 3 and 4. Six elderly ladies living together in a rooming house have a crush on the handsome homicide detective who lives across the street. They decide that in order to get in closer contact with him, they must have a murder. One of their own is poisoned, and complications grow.
The season ends with Stephen Malatratt’s “The Woman in Black,” which was adapted from the book by Susan Hill. This suspenseful ghost play will be presented Oct. 24, 25, 26 and 31 and Nov. 1 and 2. Lawyer Arthur Kipps rents a theater and hires a professional actor to help him re-enact a ghostly event that happened many years ago with horrifyingly tragic results. This play unleashes a macabre sequence of events, which will end with a truly chilling twist in its final moments.
All shows will be presented at the Park Avenue Playhouse, 408 Park Ave., Oconto. Dinner shows will be the first Friday and both Saturdays of each run and will cost $25 per person. Reservations are required. Pie shows will be Feb. 14, May 2 and Nov. 4 and cost $17 per person. Reservations are required. The stand-alone shows are $12 per person in advance.
