The Falls Fest rummage sales are old hat to Sheila Manns, whose home on McDougal Circle in the Pleasantview Subdivision is a prime location for the annual sale. This year, four families will contribute items to the sale, which Manns said will include a little bit of everything.
“We price things to sell. We’re not looking to make a ton of money,” she said.
Falls Fest rummage sales will start Thursday in Oconto Falls and continue into the weekend. Fifty-five sales are listed on the official map published in The Bonus and the Oconto County Times Herald.
Manns said the Falls Fest rummage sale has a double benefit — interacting with great people year after year and “getting rid of stuff.”
Traditional Falls Fest activities, including a chili cook-off, kids activities and live music at Memorial Field, have been dropped this year. However, the youth football tournament returns to Memorial Field, with games played from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. About a dozen teams are registered, and concessions will be available.
Changes are in store for the 2016 Falls Fest, as the Oconto Falls Friends of the Library take charge of the communitywide rummage sales now organized by the Oconto Falls Area Chamber of Commerce. Tentative dates for Falls Fest 2016 are Thursday to Saturday, Aug. 11-13, to catch the back-to-school shopping crowd.
The Friends of the Library hold their annual book sale, their biggest fundraiser of the year, during Falls Fest. The group uses the funds for library programs and materials. This year’s sale includes educational VHS tapes donated by Cooperative Educational Services Agency (CESA) 8.
“There’s a nice selection of paperback and hard cover books,” Library Director Joan Denis said.
