Lois Mae Stratton (Schultz), 89, of Appleton, passed away at her home on the lake, with her daughters by her side on Nov. 19, 2021. They take great comfort in knowing that she is now pain-free and in heaven with her Savior.
Lois was born Nov. 4, 1932, to the late Marvin and Frieda (Marohl) Schultz in Shawano. She was baptized, confirmed and married at St James Lutheran Church, Shawano.
Mom shared many fond memories of her days in Shawano, working at the movie theater, eating Dehns Ice Cream at the soda fountain with friends and summer days spent at Shawano Lake.
Lois attended UW-Oshkosh and spent her early years working at Kimberly Clark as a corporate secretary. Soon after, she met Dale, who at that time considered himself a confirmed bachelor. All that changed after meeting Mom, and they were married on April 28, 1956.
They spent several years living on Lake Winnebago and purchased property in hopes of some day building their dream retirement home. They made their home in Appleton, where they raised their three children. Mom greatly enjoyed sharing her home-cooked meals with others, as well as her baked goods during the holidays. Additionally, she enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting, gardening, watching the Milwaukee Brewers and tennis. Lois was a talented pianist and loved playing for the children’s Sunday School program at Faith. She also had a lifelong love of cats, most recently her beloved Izzy, who passed away shortly before her.
Mom and Dad enjoyed spending time at the family cabin “Up North,” summers at their place on the river at Gala Resort, where they spent their days fishing, along with many visits from family. They then built their much-anticipated retirement home on the lake, where they shared many happy years.
They also enjoyed traveling with a close group of friends. Their travels included trips to Mexico, Canada and destinations “out west,” to name a few. Many trips revolved around the men hunting and fishing, while the women enjoyed shopping and exploring the local areas.
We were so blessed by our close mother/daughter relationships. Endless days were spent rummaging, thrifting and taking trips to TJ Maxx, as well as traveling to sunny beach locations.
Survivors include: her children, Sherry (Chuck) Tysver, Sarah (Steve) Pfile, and Bradley Stratton; grandchildren: Andy Tysver, Josh (Rachel) Tysver, Zach, Carter and Dasha Pfile; and great-grandchildren: Chase and Elle Tysver. She was preceded in death by her parents: Marvin and Frieda (Marohl) Schultz; her in-laws: Glenn and Flossie Stratton; and her brother and sister-in-law: Marv and Pat Schultz.
Her funeral service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 1, at 10 a.m. with visitation starting at 9 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 601 E. Glendale Ave., Appleton. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Appleton.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the ASPCA or your local animal shelter, Salvation Army or your favorite charity.
