Letter: Health care promises have been broken

To the editor: If you like your current health care insurance policy, you can keep it. Everyone will be able to purchase affordable health care insurance. The middle class will benefit. We all remember these glowing but completely empty campaign promises. One member of our family, who pays his own health care insurance premiums, was notified on Oct. 1 that his policy is being canceled. Very few have been able to get any information on the health care exchanges. No actual number of enrollees is available. Another member of our family, who pays her own health insurance premiums, was notified of a 20 percent increase in those premiums. This certainly doesn’t sound “affordable” to me. A third member of our family who has a “middle class” job, just had her hours reduced to 29.5 hours per week. I’m sure we all know why this type of reduction occurred. This action was taken by a public school district; not one of those nasty “big corporations.” She will now have less earnings with which to pay for some future “free” health care. Thanks, Mr. President! What’s next? Each of us must evaluate how much more this “affordable health care” is going to cost our own family. John Ainsworth, Shawano
