To the editor:
In 2024, we will be facing a presidential election. As a swing state, Wisconsin will be flooded with television commercials, mailers and phone calls. Opponents on both sides will try to attack the other. Voters will have to do their homework and try to decide what is true and what is false.
There will be obvious differences when it comes to maintaining democracy at home and abroad. President Joe Biden is standing up to authoritarian leadership, which suppresses the rights of citizens. From working across the aisle to secure appropriate gun safety laws to improving community infrastructure by repairing roads and bridges, he has consistently proved concern for the safety of all Americans.
Voters will reflect on the present state of the economy and how lives are being affected. A drop in the unemployment rate to under 4% has occurred under Biden. Policies have led to better paying jobs and standing up to corporate price-gouging. Since the pandemic, he has opened the door to more business and worked to lower gas and prescription drug prices and increase health care and child care. Biden has shown he cares for hard-working Americans.
Everyone will need to think about who is committed to moving our country forward. From addressing climate change to expanding the internet, giving people access to health care and more educational opportunities, the next leader should have plans that treat all Americans fairly.
It’s not too early to do your homework.
