To the editor:
My name is Roger VanHaren. My column has shared the editorial page of the Times Herald with Dave Polashek’s “Path Around the Falls” for several years now. I have met Mr. Polashek only once, but I have enjoyed and appreciated his column, especially when he has talked about the state of education in the Oconto Falls district and in Wisconsin.
I am a retired teacher, and I agree wholeheartedly with Mr. Polashek when he says that our governor and our state Legislature are doing serious damage to what most people regard as one of the best public school systems in the nation. His July 1 column was an eloquent statement of his beliefs and gave voice to the ideas and ideals of many concerned Wisconsinites.
I hope that Mr. Polashek will not shrink back from his position now that he is retiring as the superintendent in Oconto Falls. We need the voice of reason to be heard, and we need for citizens to contact their representatives in the Legislature and let them know that we disagree with the cuts they are making to education in the state.
