Katherine Elizabeth “Kathy” Velte, 62, of Shawano, died on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2015. Born on Sept. 17, 1953, in Appleton, she is the daughter of the late Thomas H. and Doris M. (Nagel) Velte.
Kathy was born developmentally disabled and non-verbal; her life had many challenges and she proved to be a true survivor. She moved many places in her younger years, but called Shawano her home for the past 40 years. For the last eight years, Kathy was shown exemplary care in the adult family home on Wescott Avenue. Her personality blossomed and she was truly happy there. She was an “Angel on Earth” with a sweet, innocent spirit.
Kathy is survived by her brothers and sister, Christopher (Shirley) Velte, of Hortonville, Barb (Dale) Failor, of Ripon, John (Valerie) Velte, of North Carolina; three nieces, Jessica (Cody) Davis, of North Carolina, Susan (John) Bruhin, of West Virginia, and Ellen K. Velte, of North Carolina.
A memorial service for Kathy will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2015, at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with the Rev. Melinda Shriner officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
Memorials may be directed to Shawano Area Food Pantry and Resource Center.
Kathy’s family would like to extend their gratitude to the many, many people who helped to care for Kathy throughout her 62 years, especially the last eight years at the former Bowan House, now known as Wescott Place. Special thanks to Dr. Beth Gillis, Dorothy Bowan, Kimmery Weber, Kay Shelby-Norman and the late Jolene Bowan.
