A Shawano teenager is accused of stealing three cars and trying to steal a fourth during a 12-hour crime spree in the city last month. Lindsay R. Holstrom, 16, faces three felony counts of auto theft and one of attempted auto theft. She is also charged with misdemeanor counts of theft and criminal damage to property. According to the criminal complaint, Holstrom admitted to the crimes after she was arrested in one of the stolen cars. The complaint states she told authorities that she and a 13-year-old female friend were in the 500 block of South Union Street between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. May 12 when they found a vehicle with the keys in the ignition. They got in and Holstrom drove the vehicle around for a while until they got to the 200 block of East Center Street, where Holstrom said they went into an unlocked residence and stole liquor and marijuana. After driving the stolen vehicle to Keshena, where they smoked the marijuana, they returned to Shawano and went to Walmart, according to Holstrom’s statement to police. She stated she parked the car in the 700 block of South Union Street and the two ran to the 700 block of South Hamlin Street, where Holstrom spotted another car with the keys left inside. Holstrom tried to drive off with this vehicle as well, but struck something. She and her friend ran from the scene and got split up at that point, Holstrom told police. Holstrom said she then went to the 700 block of South Lincoln Street, where she found a third vehicle with the keys inside. She said she drove the car to the Estates Lane apartment complex, where she hid in the building and slept for a time, then drove around looking for her friend before eventually abandoning the car. According to the complaint, Holstrom said she walked to the 200 block of East Richmond Street, where she found a fourth vehicle with the keys inside. She said she drove the car to Keshena and later back to Shawano, where she was pulled over and arrested. According to the complaint, Holstrom also admitted to stealing some items from Walmart and from one of the stolen vehicles. The homeowner where the liquor and marijuana were allegedly stolen told police she did not want to press charges and refused to comment about the marijuana allegedly found in the home, according to the complaint. Holstrom was taken to Brown County’s juvenile detention facility and is due in Shawano-Menominee County Circuit Court for an initial appearance July 8. If convicted, Holstrom could face a maximum six years in prison and $10,000 fine on each of the three auto theft counts, and 3 years and a $5,000 fine for the attempted auto theft.
