Joyce M. Shallow

Joyce Marie (Garrigan) Shallow, 90, of Lena, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 30, 2022, at Meadowbrook in Oconto Falls. She was born July 27, 1932 to Stanley and Gertrude (Krueger) Garrigan. She graduated from Lena High School in 1949 and married Chester (Chub) Shallow in 1953. He preceded her in death in 2012. Joyce loved her music and learned to play instruments “by ear.” She played accordion, piano, harmonica, hum-strum, and spoons and provided entertainment for family and friends. She worked as secretary for the Lena veterinarians for over 50 years. Joyce bowled for over 40 years, played softball with her daughters and enjoyed various sports teams: Bucks, Brewers, Packers and Badgers. She attended many grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s sporting events. Survivors include five children; Judy Allan (friend Mike Schmidt), of Kelly Lake, Keith (Lynn) Shallow, of Kelly Lake, Janet (Stanley) Cook, of Lena, Peggy (Billy) Belongia, of Fond du Lac, and Kevin (Sherrie) Shallow, of Oconto Falls; sister, Kate (Ken) Cisar, of Oconto; sister-in-law, Sharon Garrigan, of Lena. Her pride and joy are her 22 grandchildren and 51 great-grandchildren. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, parents and siblings, Evelyn Durr, Doris Reif, Eileen Reed, Stanley Jr., Betty Schenk, Harley, James and Harvey (Mick) Garrigan. Joyce was proud of her Irish heritage and wore her kelly green proudly. All are welcome to wear some green or shamrock in her memory to her funeral service. Pall bearers are her seven grandsons, Trent Allan, Nathan and Casey Cook, Bengie Belongia, Andy Shallow, Kaleb and Shea Shallow. Visitation for Joyce will be held on Friday, Nov. 4, 2022, at St. Anne Parish, 221 E. Main St., Lena, from 9-11 a.m. A funeral Mass will follow at the church beginning at 11 a.m. with the Rev.
