Jerry Eggert to lead Fun Daze parade

The Embarrass Volunteer Fire Department will host the 25th annual Embarrass Fun Daze celebration July 27 at Embarrass Park. “We’ve got a really great line-up of activities planned for this year’s event,” said Darrell Polzin, Embarrass Fire Department chief. “There’s something for everyone at Fun Daze, and we’re hoping everyone will come out and have a great time for a good cause.” Jerry Eggert will be honored as the 2013 parade marshal. Jerry has been a member of the Embarrass Village Board for the past 38 years and was a member of the Embarrass Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years, from 1973-1998. He is also one of three generations in the Eggert family to serve the department. Jerry’s father, Verr Eggert, served from 1954 to 1979, and his son, Todd, is currently a member. In addition to his regular duties as a fireman, Eggert served as the department’s carpenter and helped on many projects in the park and the fire station. The parade will begin at approximately 11 a.m. on the northeast end of town and proceed down Main Street to the corner of state Highway 22. Cash prizes will be awarded for best entry in four categories: Most Original, Most Humorous, Best Commercial, and Best Club or Church Organization. Fun Daze will feature a variety of adult and family-friendly events and entertainment throughout the day, including live music, garden tractor pulls, kickball, volleyball, a bag toss tournament and a humstrum contest. The third annual Fun Daze Craft & Flea Market will set up next to Zimdar’s Plumbing & Heating on Main Street and run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Food and refreshments will be available all day.
