State Sen. Andre Jacque announced his campaign for Congress on March 4 during a Green Bay radio show.
Jacque, R-De Pere, joins former state Sen. Roger Roth, R-Appleton, as the only announced candidates for the seat now held by U.S. Rep. Mike Gallagher, R-Green Bay. Gallagher announced Feb. 10 that he won’t run for a fifth two-year term in Congress. Jacque’s announcement potentially sets up an Aug. 13 Republican primary.
“Living in and representing the northeast portion of the state has afforded me the opportunity to meet many neighbors who have become friends,” Jacque said. “I’m proud of my record delivering conservative wins and fighting back against liberal policies that would harm our state.”
Jacque served four two-year terms in the state Assembly before being elected to the state Senate in 2018. A married father of six, he is currently serving his second four-year term as a state senator representing the 1st Senate District. The recent redistricting moved his home into the 30th Senate District, but the next District 1 election is not scheduled until 2026.
Other potential candidates for 8th Congressional District include Alex Brusewitz, a Republican consultant who was born in Wisconsin but currently lives in Florida, and Democrat Kristin Lyerly, a De Pere doctor.
The 8th Congressional District covers all of Shawano, Oconto, Menominee, Brown, Calumet, Door, Kewaunee, Marinette, Outagamie and Waupaca counties and a portion of Winnebago County.
