Irene Mae Johnson, 92, of Neenah, passed away on Oct. 30, 2021. She was born in Antigo to the late John Hjalmer and Ella (Stark) Matson on March 3, 1929. Irene was mostly a homemaker, raising four children — Marlene (Roger) Marks, Neenah; Mark, Larsen; Marvin, Neenah; and Mary (Rob Jackson) Rotonda, West, Florida.
She is also survived by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Andy of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Nathaniel “Bud” (Julie) Marks and their children, River and Beckett, of Hartville, Ohio. She is further survived by her sister, Helen Spolarich of Sacramento, California, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Betty McDonald, Harriet (Alfred) Gill and Joseph Spolarich, along with nieces and nephews.
Mom loved to play her guitar while singing along, write poetry, enjoy a glass of wine, and made sure to pass on her lefse making skills to her grandsons. She was a hard-working woman all her life and even at 92 was out working in her yard.
A funeral service for Irene will be held at Grace Lutheran Church of Winchester, 8396 Steeple Hill Drive, Larsen, on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Brian Staude officiating. Visitation will be held at church from 9 a.m. until the hour of service. Masks are recommended but not required.
Memorials may be given to Grace Lutheran Church or to Ruth’s Pantry at Grace Lutheran.
Rest now in the Lord, Mom — Your work here is done.
