Wittenberg-Birnamwood 54, Marinette 23
Early issues were corrected, and Wittenberg-Birnamwood went on to soundly defeat Marinette 54-23.
“We struggled in the first half tonight against Marinette,” coach Nick Mechelke said. “We came out slow and got down 16-9 and finished the the half up 22-18. We made some adjustments on the defensive end and held Marinette scoreless in the first 11 minutes.”
Wittenberg-Birnamwood held Marinette to five second-half points while scoring 32.
“Our defensive effort was spot on in the second half,” Mechelke said. “This was a good win for us tonight.”
Melaina Granquist scored 21 points, including three 3-pointers. Rory Salvesen added 12 points.
Faith Resch led the team with three assists. Granquist had nine rebounds, and Resch had five steals.
