Wisconsin tart cherry production totaled 10.0 million pounds in 2023, down 19% from 2022 production levels, according to the USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service – Noncitrus Fruits and Nuts 2023 Summary.
Wisconsin’s bearing acreage was estimated at 1,700 acres, unchanged from last year. Average yield per acre, at 5,880 pounds, was down 1,420 pounds from last year.
The overall average price decreased 1.6 cents per pound to 18.8 cents per pound in 2023. The value of Wisconsin’s utilized tart cherry crop totaled $1.82 million in 2023.
Wisconsin cranberry production totaled 5.01 million barrels in 2023, compared to 4.80 million barrels in 2022.
The state’s cranberry growers harvested 19,100 acres, down 400 acres from last year. Average yield per acre, at 262.3 barrels, was up 7% from last year’s 246.2 barrels.
The price of cranberries was down 3% from 2022 to $37.40 per barrel. The total value of utilized production was $187 million.
Processed cranberries accounted for 94% of the state’s utilized cranberry production.
Wisconsin maintained its number one ranking in total cranberry production with 62% of the nation’s total. Wisconsin total production was more than twice that of the next highest producing state, Massachusetts.
