Wisconsin had 2.3 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending June 23, 2024, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
Heavy rainfall occurred throughout the state, making it challenging for farmers to complete field activities. Although some field work was completed early week before the wet weather occurred, very little was accomplished later in the week.
Topsoil moisture condition rated zero percent very short, zero percent short, 53% adequate and 47% surplus. Subsoil moisture condition rated zero percent very short, zero percent short, 62% adequate and 38% surplus.
Corn planting was 96% complete. Corn emergence was 89% complete, one week behind last year and three days behind the five-year average. Corn condition was rated 65% good to excellent, down 4% from last week.
Soybean planting was 97% complete. Soybean emergence was 90% complete, eight days behind last year but one day ahead of average. Soybean condition was 64% good to excellent, down 3% from last week.
Oat emergence was 93% complete, and the crop was 56% headed. Oat condition decreased 4% to 79% good to excellent statewide.
Winter wheat was 97% headed. Winter wheat coloring was 35% complete. Winter wheat condition increased to 86% good to excellent, up two percentage points from last week.
The first cutting of alfalfa hay was 83% complete, 13 days behind last year and six days behind average.
All hay condition decreased to 66% good to excellent, down seven percentage points from last week.
Potato condition remained constant at 93% good to excellent. Pasture and range condition decreased to 68% good to excellent, down four percentage points from last week.
