Troy Sadler is the financial secretary for the Knights of Columbus Council 2836. He was born in Shawano and graduated from Shawano High School. He worked at Citizens Bank for three years and since 1998 has been the accounting manager at Menominee Casino Resort.
While working, Sadler earned an associate degree from Northeast Wisconsin Technical College, attended College of Menominee Nation and got a bachelor’s degree in business from Lakeland College with a minor in economics. Currently he is working on his masters at Lakeland.
Sadler lives in Shawano and enjoys fishing, hunting and camping. He recently purchased 20 acres west of Shawano in the town of Richmond.
He is a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Shawano.
Q How long have you been in the Knights?
A “I joined in 1992.”
Q Why did you join?
A “I joined because of the group. We do a lot of things with the community. Also I just graduated from high school and it looked good on my application. I also got a scholarship from the Knights. It was to get out more because after meetings we have a little luncheon and play cards.”
Q What do you do?
A “I was the recorder for a while and am now the financial secretary. I’m also on our First Degree team. There are four degrees. The first is basic information, the second is additional learning, the third is the level when you can be an officer, and the fourth is the state level when you can be a state officer.”
Q What’s coming up?
A “We are having a membership drive at church at the Masses on Sept. 19 and 20. We have porky pancake breakfast on Oct. 11 with pancakes, sausage, cheese and applesauce. It is $5 for adults, 6-10 is $2, 5 and under are free. We have a free throw contest, a poster contest, an essay contest, math and spelling contest, soccer challenge and Tootsie Roll sale.”
Q How do you earn money?
A “The Porky Pancake is our main fundraiser along with dues. There is a pancake breakfast in the fall and in the spring.”
Q Who do you help?
A “We donate to the St. Martin Food Pantry and to SAFPARC. We give them money to buy what they need. We also give money to a future priest. We ask the diocese who would need help. We have a Landing Day banquet in the fall.”
Q Why do you volunteer?
A “I get enjoyment from helping people.”
