Violet G. Putnam

Violet Gladys Putnam, 102, a lifelong resident of Oconto Falls, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at Meadowbrook nursing home surrounded by her family and friends. She was born on Sept. 10, 1920, the 10th child of 13, to the late Abraham and Mary (Rowell) Hyland. She was united in marriage on Oct. 31, 1937, to Kendall Putnam in Iron Mountain, Michigan. He preceded her in death in 1955. She worked at Scott Paper Mill until her retirement in 1983. Our mother was the most amazing, strong woman. Without going to church, she taught us all to have a strong faith, love and to trust God. She taught us that God made us a family, and to love one another. She taught us the importance of forgiveness and to love nature. There were times when she would wake us to look at a full moon. The most important thing she taught us by her example, was to love life and have fun. Violet is survived by two daughters, Constance Lee Oliver and Mary “Cookie” (Gary) Konitzer; one son, Kent Hyland Putnam; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one daughter, Susan Putnam; and son-in-law, Ron Oliver. Violet’s wishes were to be cremated and no services held.
