The Oconto Falls City Council, with no discussion, adopted a budget Nov. 18, resulting in no change in the tax levy for 2015. The levy will remain at $964,146. The council approved the tax levy following a budget hearing in which no members of the public attended.
The City Council approved a budget of just under $2 million in general fund expenditures, a 1 percent increase or $17,408 over last year.
Exactly how much taxpayers will be charged has not yet been calculated.
Transportation costs for the city showed an increase of 13.2 percent, or $36,453. According to Deputy Treasurer Eve Wallace, that money is slated to cover increases in street department gas and oil expenses, curb and gutter expenses on Central Avenue and Highland Drive, and road salt and wages for snow removal.
The city will also spend $4,500 to purchase rakes for fire fighting and communications equipment for the fire department. The department will receive a $4,500 grant from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to cover the other half of the expense.
The board also authorized the sale and issuance of $1.565 million in general obligation promissory notes to fund road replacement on Indianwood Drive and Ridge Road.
According to City Administrator Vicki Roberts, the notes will also cover additional expenses the city is considering, including a dump truck purchase at $150,000, resurfacing the city hall parking lot at $26,000 and road repair on Walnut and Monroe streets and Munsert Avenue, at an estimated cost of $241,000.
The estimated overage cost of $100,000 will be taken from the fund balance, which grew by $46,133 in the 2015 budget.
The equalized property value for the city increased nearly half a percent from last year, up $729,600, from $153,240,300 to $153,969,900.
