The Suring School District plans to have a new principal on the staff in time for the start of the 2015-16 school year, following the July 23 resignation of Steve Huisman.
Preliminary interviews are scheduled this week, and the Board of Education is scheduled to interview the top two or three candidates next week.
Huisman served as Suring’s kindergarten to grade 12 principal from 2013-15. He said in his resignation letter it was a “tremendous honor” to serve the district.
“This decision is completely for personal reasons and is no way a reflection on any negative feelings toward the district, its students (who are the greatest part of this job), and its personnel,” the letter stated.
Huisman has accepted a position as a fourth-grade teacher at Fairview Elementary School in the Pulaski Community School District.
In an email to the Times Herald, School Superintendent Kelly Casper said the work of the principal will be handled internally until the position is filled.
“I personally want to thank Steve Huisman for the passion he showed to our students in the Suring Public School District during the past two years,” she said.
During Huisman’s tenure, new educational initiatives were started, including Response to Intervention (RtI) and Teacher Effectiveness, Casper said.
Huisman spent nine years teaching at the elementary school level and served as a fourth-grade teacher, acting principal and dean of students for the Williams Bay School District in southeastern Wisconsin before accepting his first full-time administrative position as Suring’s principal.
