Shawano 4-H member Taya Jannusch recently attended the 2024 National 4-H Conference in Washington, D.C. She was chosen as one of only nine youth delegates in Wisconsin.
The conference annually brings 4-H youths and adults from around the nation to work towards strengthening and expanding the 4-H Youth Development program at the local, state and national levels. The conference is the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture’s premier youth development opportunity to engage youths in developing recommendations for the 4-H Youth Development program.
The national 4-H headquarters is charged with sharing the recommendations that emerge from the conference with the Secretary of Agriculture, national Extension program leaders and others who determine 4-H programs. At the same time, the conference is a rich and meaningful experience for the youth and adult participants.
“My favorite part of the National 4-H Conference was meeting all of the 4-Hers from across the country (and territories),” Jannusch said. “It was awesome to see how we all participate with 4-H in different ways and to hear each other’s stories. I also enjoyed going to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. The museum portrayed this rich and touching event in history really well.”
National 4-H Conference delegates were able to participate in a round table topic of their choosing that will focus on key topics such as leadership, agriculture, crime and more; participate in professional workshops; meet with members of Congress from their state to discuss issues relating to 4-H; have a chance to network with youths and adults from across the country; and learn all about 4-H programming and think about ways to improve programming across the nation.
