The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Department of Wisconsin announced that Shawano Lake Golf Course will host the first ever Eastern Classic Golf Tournament.
Funds raised from the event will go toward supporting the DAV’s initiatives that assist veterans in Wisconsin.
In fiscal year 2022, the DAV Transportation Program in Wisconsin provided transportation for 16,4000 sick or disabled veterans, requiring 45,985 volunteer hours and a total of 611,695 miles.
The Eastern Classic Golf Tournament will be a four-person scramble on Aug. 10. The $500 entry fee includes green fees, two carts per team, lunch, dinner and hole games.
A patriotic golf attire contest is among the activities.
Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a shotgun start at 10:30 a.m. Lunch and dinner will be provided with registration, in addition to hole prizes and challenge coins for veteran participants. Veterans memorials and honorees will be at each hole. Raffles and awards will follow dinner.
Prizes will be awarded for first, seventh and 14th places.
Adam Alexander, DAV’s 2022 Disabled American Veteran of the Year, will be the guest speaker.
Shawano Lake Golf Course (nick-named “Shalagoco” or simply the Shal), was established in 1922 and is one of Wisconsin’s oldest courses, according to the golf course website.
The Shalagoco is a public course that features 18-holes and 6,231 yards spread over 120 acres of rolling, tree-lined fairways with finely manicured greens.
The facility, located at 5714 Lake Drive, also contains an eight-tee driving range, a putting green and a sand bunker practice area.
