Pulaski’s boys lacrosse team won its first game ever, an 11-5 win over Wayland Academy JV on April 6.
With a 1-0 lead after the first quarter, Pulaski piled on five more goals in the second to lead 6-1 at halftime.
Pulaski scored another pair of goals in the third period, but Wayland Academy scored four of their own to make it 8-5 going into the final stanza. Three unanswered goals sealed the win for the Red Raiders.
Ben Schroeder notched five saves while giving up five goals. Pulaski had 19 shots on goal.
After two games, Mitchell Sprecht leads Pulaski with three goals and two assists. Brady Huss has nine ground balls. Gavin Heintz has four takeaways.
De Pere Central 11, Pulaski 2
Pulaski’s lacrosse season opened with an 11-2 loss to the De Pere Central Ghostbirds.
De Pere jumped out to a 3-0 first quarter lead, a score that remained constant at halftime.
De Pere went up 5-0 in the third period.
Pulaski scored its first two goals ever in the fourth quarter, but De Pere added six of of its own for the lopsided win. Both of the Red Raiders goals were scored by Jake Kuehl.
Schroeder made eight saves. Pulaski had seen shots on goal.
At its meeting on Dec. 2, 2022, the WIAA Board of Control approved the addition of lacrosse as a sanctioned sport with a tournament series for boys and girls in the spring of 2024.
Pulaski also has a girls lacrosse team.
It’s the first time an entirely new sport has been introduced for both genders since the addition of boys and girls soccer in 1982-83. Since that time, hockey and wrestling expanded to girls sponsorship in 2002 and 2022, respectively, and boys volleyball was reinstated in 2000, but those sports were already sanctioned for the other gender.
