Oconto Falls High School students now have an opportunity to take college-level health care courses to earn high school and college credit while attending high school.
The school board approved a partnership with the Bellin College Healthcare Academy during its regular monthly meeting March 18. Starting this fall, OFHS students will be able to take college-level courses through Bellin. Current ninth, 10th and 11th grade students were able to learn more about the academy on March 20, and a parents meeting is planned in the near future.
The partnership with Bellin was one of four high school curriculum changes approved during the board meeting. The others were adding a general college-level chemistry course, also through Bellin, an option for advanced placement students to take a two-semester U.S. history course at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and additional English intervention programs.
“I was really impressed with the amount of foresight and the amount of time and attention that went into these plans,” said Sarah Schindel, chair of the board’s curriculum committee. “They are just really, really great opportunities for our kids.”
